When Where does notrequire an account and does not ask for your name, email, or any personal details. Your game progress — streak, best score, round count, and the hard-mode setting — is saved only in your browser's local storage, on your device. It is never sent to us or to any server, and clearing your browser storage erases it.

To run the game, your browser makes requests directly to a few free services:

• Wikimedia and The Met — to load photographs and their details.
• OpenStreetMap / CARTO — to load the map tiles.
• BigDataCloud — in Country mode only, to convert a map point into a country name.

As with any web request, these services receive your IP address and standard request headers. We do not control their data practices; see each provider's own policy.

When Where itself uses no tracking cookies — game state lives in local storage, not cookies. To keep the game free, we may show ads through Google AdSense. When enabled, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads based on your prior activity.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland are shown Google's certified consent message, where you can accept or refuse personalised ads. If you refuse, ads are requested in a non-personalised manner. You can also manage ad personalisation at Google My Ad Center.

• Use Google's consent message (shown in the EEA, UK & Switzerland) to accept or decline personalised advertising.
• Use your browser settings to block or delete cookies at any time.

When Where is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
