How to play

Place a photo in time and space

You're shown a real photograph with no caption. Guess when and/or where it was taken. There's no timer — only accuracy scores.

A round, step by step

  1. A fresh photograph loads from an open archive.
  2. Inspect it — zoom in for detail if a clue is worth the cost.
  3. Make your guess: a year, a map pin, a country, or a combination.
  4. Submit to reveal the truth beside your answer, and your score.
  5. Hit Next round and do it again.

Modes

  • Date — pick the year on a slider (18262026); worth up to 5,000 points.
  • Location — drop a pin on the map; scored by distance, up to 5,000 points.
  • Country — name the country; full marks for the right one, partial for the right continent.
  • Dual — do both date and location; the two scores combine 50/50.

On any map mode you can flip Hard mode to hide every place-name label on the map — no reading the answer off the tiles.

Zoom, at a cost

You get 3zooms per round to inspect the photo up close. Each new zoom depth lowers that round's maximum score by 10%. Zooming back out is free. For the full curves, see the scoring page.

Streaks & stats

A round keeps your streak alive if you score at least half of what was possible. Your streak, best score, and round count live only in this browser — nothing is sent to a server, and clearing your storage resets them.
